Job Overview
The Head of Internal Audit will be responsible for leading the Organization's Internal Audit function and for overseeing the Internal Audit Team, ensuring that they operate efficiently and effectively in accordance with established auditing standards and company policies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Leading the Internal Audit function and team which is responsible for planning and executing internal audits.
- Developing audit plans and risk assessments to identify areas of the business that require attention.
- Monitoring and reporting on audit findings to the Board of Directors and to the Chief Executive Officer on a regular basis.
- Ensuring compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and accounting standards.
- Maintaining relationships with external auditors to ensure that audit processes are aligned and that there are no conflicts of interest.
- Providing recommendations for improvements to management on ways to improve internal controls and processes.
- Training and developing the Internal Audit team, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
Skills & Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) or Association of Certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA).
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in internal audit, external audit, accounting or project management is usually required. Experience in a leadership role is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to effectively identify and evaluate risks and recommend solutions.
- Deep understanding of relevant regulations, standards, and best practices related to internal audit.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with the CEO and the Board of Directors.
- Strong leadership skills to lead a team and develop a positive and collaborative work culture.
- Must possess a high level of integrity and be able to maintain strict confidentiality, especially when dealing with sensitive information.
